after violation - Xaver Schlager training again at RB Leipzig

Eleven weeks after suffering a cruciate ligament injury, Xaver Schlager returned to RB Leipzig's training ground. On Wednesday, the Austrian national team player only participated in individual drills with the athletic trainer but ran around the pitch in excellent physical condition. The 26-year-old midfielder sustained the injury on May 3 against TSG Hoffenheim and underwent immediate surgery in Innsbruck. His previous cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in 2021 kept him out for just five and a half months - at that time, he was still playing for VfL Wolfsburg.

Kevin Kampl missed training due to an infection, while André Silva, Hugo Novoa, and Lukas Klostermann trained individually. The Belgian newcomer Maarten Vandevoort made a strong impression. The KRC Genk goalkeeper intends to learn from first-choice keeper Peter Gulacsi. "He's an excellent goalkeeper. He has a lot of experience. I can learn a lot from him," said the 22-year-old. Marco Rose was recently impressed: "He's a great guy and a really good goalkeeper. You can already tell that in the first sessions."

EM players are gradually returning

The Hungarian national team players Gulacsi and captain Willi Orban are expected at training on the coming Monday. Shortly before departure for the US training camp (July 28 to August 4), Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko, Yussuf Poulsen, Christoph Baumgartner, and Nicolas Seiwald will join. German national team players Benjamin Henrichs and David Raum begin their preparation in Leipzig on August 1 - both will be absent in New York. However, the return of the heavily courted Dani Olmo and Xavi Simons to the Cottaweg is still open.
