Wrong-way driver on the A38 - serious accident with three fatalities
Three people have been killed in a serious accident on the Autobahn 38 in the south of Saxony-Anhalt. According to the police, two vehicles collided between Querfurt and Eisleben at around 4.30 a.m. on Friday morning, one of which, according to initial findings, was a wrong-way driver.
The man is said to have driven onto the A38 towards Göttingen in the wrong direction and collided head-on with the other car. The wrong-way driver was reportedly killed, while two women in the other car died. A man, who was also in the women's vehicle, was flown to a hospital in Halle with serious injuries. The badly deformed wrecks of the cars involved in the accident could be seen at the scene.
Drivers should avoid the area between Querfurt and Eisleben. The highway from Halle towards Göttingen is closed. It was initially not possible to predict when the accident site would be cleared and traffic would be able to move again.
