Effects in the North - Worldwide IT disruptions affect TUI and Familia-Markertes as well

Global computer issues have had minimal impact in Lower Saxony and Bremen so far. A spokesperson from the Interior Ministry in Hannover stated that the local authorities in Lower Saxony were not affected. According to media reports, a glitch in a program update from IT security firm Crowdstrike is suspected to be the cause. The software is not in use in Lower Saxony, according to the Interior Ministry.

Hannover Airport had no computer problems. However, five planes, whose original destination was Berlin, landed at the airport Hannover instead due to the global IT disruptions. A spokesperson for the airport recommended that passengers contact their airline or travel agent for information about potential delays.

Tui and Famila affected

The global IT disruption also affected tour operator Tui and its subsidiary Tuifly. Tui temporarily halted check-in at Palma de Mallorca Airport, according to a dpa reporter on site. Check-in was then resumed manually. A Tui spokesperson in Hannover told dpa that there were no flight disruptions yet.

Concrete effects cannot be determined yet. Tui is affected both directly and indirectly, meaning in its own IT and additionally through airport disruptions that it flies to. "We are working on it and trying to minimize the consequences," the spokesperson said. The corporate IT is working under pressure to bypass IT processes that were not running due to the disruption.

Reports indicate that some supermarkets, including Famila and Combi, experienced issues. "Occasionally," Famila and Combi markets were closed due to non-functioning cash register systems, according to a spokesperson for the Buening Group, which operates the markets in Leer. The "Nordwest-Zeitung" also reported restrictions at Buening.

No disruptions reported in Bremen

Bremen Airport reported no disruptions initially. A senate spokesperson stated that most local authorities in Bremen were not affected by the computer problems. According to the Interior Ministry, police, fire department, and order maintenance functions were all functioning.

A spokesperson for FLN Frisia-Luftverkehr, which operates flights to the islands of Wangerooge and Juist from Norddeich, reported no problems with the IT disruption. An existing issue with the telephone system at the airport had other causes.

Reports indicate that besides the aviation industry, the operations of banks and hospitals were disrupted in other countries. There were no reports of computer problems from Lower Saxony clinics, according to a spokesperson for the Health Ministry in Hannover.
