Blind-walkers - World War II bomb near Niederwalden Monument successfully detonated
The 500 kilogram Heavy World War Bomb near Rüdesheim's Niederwalddenkmal in the Rheingau-Taunus-District has been successfully detonated. The area is now reopened, according to a spokesperson from Fire Department, Disaster Control, and Rescue Services. The explosion occurred as planned at 2:00 PM.
The Blind Gänger was discovered on a Wednesday. In preparation for the operation, an area with a one-kilometer radius around the discovery site was evacuated. Approximately 650 people in the Aulhausen district were affected. The area around the Niederwalddenkmal was also closed off.
During the evacuation process for the Blind Gänger discovery, residents from the nearby Rudesheim in the Rhineland-Taunus-District were temporarily relocated due to safety concerns. The emergency measures were a direct consequence of the ongoing war and its devastating effects, as souvenir hunters often unearthed World War bombs in the area. The successful detonation of the 500-kilogram World War Bomb near Hesse's Niederwalddenkmal served as a reminder of the destructive power of war and the need for vigilance and caution.
