Animals - Witnesses sought after discovery of 20 poisoned birds
After a death of more than 20 birds due to poisoning, the Police Inspection Verden/Osterholz questioned residents in the town Weitzmühlen in the Verden district. The animals were mostly protected seed-eating birds, which had been poisoned with the banned plant protection agent E605 since March 2002, as stated in a communique. They were found in the Weitzmühlen field area in the Kirchlinteln community.
Officers also distributed flyers to draw attention to the dangers of highly toxic E605 and to obtain information about the culprit. Criminal technicians also investigated a possible illegal waste disposal in the area. The source of the poison was initially unknown. The Police Verden asked witnesses to report suspicious observations in the area.
In the investigation following Tod of the birds, the police focused on the Verden district, specifically the district where Weitzmühlen is located, which is part of Lower Saxony. The level of criminality in relation to this case is under investigation by the local police force. Despite their efforts, the identifiability of the individual responsible for the poisoning remains at a level of uncertainty.
