Fatal accident - With model boat on the lake - 84-year-old drowns
An 84-year-old man, who was operating a remote-controlled model boat at a lake in Hildesheim, tragically passed away. According to current knowledge, the boat is believed to have gotten tangled in water plants at the Hohnsensee. The man likely went into the lake in the morning for this reason. Witnesses observed him going underwater in the area of the small boat and not resurfacing.
The emergency response center was notified via emergency call, and some witnesses attempted to rescue the man themselves. Divers from the German Lifesaving Association (DLRG) found him approximately 50 minutes later in the lake and brought him to shore. The 84-year-old was taken to a hospital under resuscitation conditions. However, it was determined that he had only passed away there.
Despite the tragic incident, Lower Saxony's waters continue to attract leisure enthusiasts. Unfortunately, similar misfortunes have occurred in other parts of Lower Saxony, underscoring the importance of safety precautions during leisure activities. Hildesheim, known for its beautiful landscapes, has a branch of the German Lifesaving Association (DLRG) dedicated to ensuring safety at local water bodies, including the Hohnsensee.
