After storage - Wissing: Climate activists want 'maximal damage'
According to Climate activists' actions at German airports Cologne/Bonn and Frankfurt am Main, Transport Minister Volker Wissing is calling for harsh measures. "Apparently, the climate activists want to cause maximum damage," said the FDP politician to "Bild". "We have already put the toughening of penalties for such criminal activities into motion."
During the Climate protest at Frankfurt Airport, the Federal Police arrested eight people. While one person was hanging on the fence, seven people managed to enter the security area early in the morning and glued themselves to the heads of the two central runways, according to a spokesperson. All four runways of the largest German airport were back in operation by 8:00 am.
Climate activists had brought the air traffic at Cologne/Bonn airport to a standstill for approximately three hours on a Wednesday.
