Weather - When the second light is on... it's warmer outside
It's getting warmer again. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach is expecting significant plus temperatures towards the second Advent. The trend is already starting on Thursday.
In the south-western half of Germany, people can once again look forward to some sunshine. According to the DWD, the Black Forest and the Alps will have the "best skiing weather". In the eastern half, however, gray dominates. The DWD is predicting the last light snowfall in the Ore Mountains and the Bavarian Forest. On Wednesday, the winter weather continued to cause problems for many people.
According to the meteorologists, new precipitation will come from the west on Friday, partly as freezing rain. There may be snow again towards the east and in the higher mountain regions. As the day progresses, milder air will gradually flow in: According to the forecast, temperatures in the west will already rise to between three and eight degrees, while the east will still be freezing with temperatures between minus two and plus two degrees.
Double-digit plus degrees possible
"On the second weekend of Advent, the milder weather will continue with more rain", said meteorologist Nico Bauer from the Weather Forecast Center on Wednesday. "Then double-digit plus degrees are possible in the lowlands in the west." Towards the east, however, the cold air will be much more persistent: some snow or freezing rain with black ice is still possible there on Saturday. By Sunday at the latest, "the snowmen in the east will also be slowly getting the better of it", said Bauer.
On Wednesday, air traffic at Munich Airport was affected by the weather - 60 of around 560 planned flights were canceled, said an airport spokesperson. Flight schedules had already been reduced by the airlines beforehand. This was due to the consequences of the snowfall at the weekend and the freezing rain the day before.
Autobahn GmbH: No shortage of gritting materials
According to a media report, Autobahn GmbH has sufficient stocks of gritting materials in large parts of Germany. "There have been no shortages of gritting material so far. The situation is under control," a company spokesperson told the Rheinische Post. The Autobahn GmbH maintenance depots have reportedly made extensive preparations for the winter season. Traffic on the nationwide route network has so far been largely trouble-free.
Homeless people in particular are suffering from the cold. "Winter is just starting, and those living on the streets often have a weak immune system," said Werena Rosenke, Managing Director of the Federal Working Group for Homeless Assistance, in the Rheinische Post newspaper. According to the association, emergency housing assistance services have already stepped up their support services. Rosenke referred to so-called cold buses and heated lounges.
