CSD in Berlin - Wegner takes part in Christopher Street Day

Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner will also participate in this year's Christopher Street Day (CSD) in the capital. Whether the CDU politician will open the parade on July 27 is still uncertain, according to the spokeswoman of the Senate Chancellery, Christine Richter. No request or invitation from the CSD has been received yet.

Traditionally, the opening is done by the Mayor or the Mayor's wife. However, the CSD organizer has made several demands that Wegner and the Senate must first fulfill. The association is demanding, among other things, that Wegner keeps his promise to strengthen the rights of queer people in the Basic Law, which he made at the CSD opening last year.

When Wegner hoisted the Rainbow Flag at the Town Hall at the beginning of July, representatives of the CSD organizer's association approached him about their concerns and handed him a poster with their core demands. According to Richter, a meeting is planned at the Town Hall today, during which, according to her, the demands will certainly be discussed.

The CDU, being a part of Berlin's Senate, has yet to receive a request or invitation for Kai Wegner to open this year's Christopher Street Day. Despite the uncertainty, Christine Richter, the Senate Chancellery's spokeswoman, mentions a scheduled meeting at the Town Hall to discuss the CSD organizer's demands regarding strengthening queer rights, as promised by Kai Wegner at last year's CSD opening on Christopher Street Day in Berlin.
