Winter weather - Weather service warns of black ice in parts of Germany
The German Weather Service (DWD) warned of icy conditions due to freezing rain in large parts of Germany on Friday morning. The warning report stated: "In the center and to the east, partly snow or grains of ice, partly rain with black ice."
In the southern parts of the country, too, rain is to be expected for the most part, with frequent freezing and black ice in Bavaria. In Baden-Württemberg, however, the situation should ease.
The DWD advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and travel. Delays and obstructions should be planned for. No major disruptions or accidents in rush-hour traffic had been reported by late Friday morning - except in parts of Hesse, for example. According to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, there were disruptions to bus services there.

The heavy rain mixed with freezing temperatures in Offenbach, a city in Hesse, could lead to the formation of more black ice on the roads. Despite the warnings and advises from the DWD, some individuals still chose to brave the traffic, leading to disruptions in the smooth flow of vehicles. The meteorological conditions in Germany, as reported by DWD, suggest that more winter weather with potential rain and black ice is expected in the near future.
