Good for fish - Weapons in the Saxon Switzerland are being mined
The Kirnitzsch River in the Saxon Switzerland is to become more animal-friendly. Therefore, a weir in the river at Bad Schandau will be dismantled by the end of September, as the state dam administration announced. The goal is to make the watercourse in the popular Kirnitzsch Valley passable again for fish and other water creatures.
To compensate for the height difference of about 80 centimeters, the weir will be drawn out over 55 meters and adapted to the natural slope. In addition, a low water channel and two fish pools are to be created. The costs of around 500,000 Euro are being borne by the Free State of Saxony.
The Kirnitzsch River, located in the breathtaking landscape of Saxon Switzerland, is home to numerous aquatic species. This beloved river in the picturesque Kirnitzsch Valley is part of Saxony's rich natural heritage, which is deeply valued for nature protection. With the removal of the weir in Bad Schandau, fish and other water creatures will be able to swim freely upstream, enhancing the overall biodiversity of the area.
