The strawberry harvest in Thuringia is estimated to be below average this year, according to preliminary estimates from the Statistical Office in Erfurt. The agricultural businesses that cultivate strawberries are forecasting around 624 tonnes. This harvest volume is slightly lower than last year's but more than 33% below the long-term average. The average strawberry production in Thuringen from 2018 to 2023 was still 962 tonnes.

Preliminary results show that in this year, strawberries were grown on 85 hectares in the open field, which is one hectare more than in the period from 2018 to 2023. The average strawberry cultivation area in Thuringia in the past six years was still 117 hectares. It is predicted that this year's yield will be 7.3 tonnes of strawberries per hectare - two percent less than the previous year and 11 percent less than the long-term average.

Despite the increased strawberry cultivation area in Thuringia this year, the anticipated strawberry harvest in Agriculture-rich Thuringia, particularly in Erfurt, is expected to be lower than average, contributing less to the overall fruits and vegetables, or 'foods', available. The decrease in strawberry harvest can potentially impact local farmers and strawberry-related businesses in Thuringia.
