Tradition - Water procession on Bodensee: Decorated boats anchor
It is an old Tradition: Numerous boats adorned with flowers are drawn from the small community of Moos early in the morning over Lake Constance towards Radolfzell. The so-called Mooser Water Procession has its origin in the late 18th century, as the inhabitants of Moos were spared from a livestock disease rampant in South Germany.
The citizens of the small community fulfill a vow every year on the Monday following the third July Sunday, as they have done since 1797, by attending a Thanksgiving Service in the church.
Since then, the pilgrimage from Moos to the neighboring city of Radolfzell has taken place - on the water since 1926. The pilgrims' gratitude is directed towards the three Saints Theopont, Senesius and Zeno, who are said to have heard the prayers of the Moos residents for protection against the livestock disease. The decorated boats were accompanied by two larger ships.
The Moos community has maintained a custom of shipping the decorated boats directly to Radolfzell am Bodensee since 1926. This annual tradition, located in the beautiful region of Baden-Württemberg, is a significant event that takes place around Lake Constance. The pilgrims conclude their journey at the church in Radolfzell, expressing their gratitude towards the three holy figures.
