Walkenhorst announces final retirement

After the German Championship, Kira Walkenhorst retires at the beach. Her greatest achievements are the Olympic gold in Rio and the WM title in 2017.

Beach Volleyball - Walkenhorst announces final retirement

Olympia-Winner Kira Walkenhorst announced her final retirement as a Beach-Volleyball player. The German Championship in Timmendorfer Strand will be her last tournament, she shared on her Social-Media channels. The tournament on the Baltic Sea coast takes place from August 29 to September 1.

"I am very much looking forward to ending this long, successful, but also tough career together with my family, long-term companions, and you fans", wrote Walkenhorst.

Olympic Gold and World Championship Titles: Crown of a Career

The block specialist won the Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 together with her long-term partner Laura Ludwig. In 2017, they won the World Championship title in Vienna. In 2015 and 2016, Ludwig/Walkenhorst were also European champions.

Kira Walkenhorst first announced her retirement in 2019. However, she made a comeback in 2020. This year, she forms a team with Isabel Schneider.

Kira Walkenhorst, the Olympic gold medalist from Germany, will bid farewell to Beach volleyball at the German Championship held in Timmendorf Beach. Her illustrious career, marked by Olympic Gold and World Championship titles, will culminate in Hamburg, her homeland. After sharing her retirement plans on social media, Walkenhorst is eager to close this career-oriented chapter with her family, long-term companions, and fans.
