Verdi urges Telekom customer service employees to go on strike on Sunday.

Telekom's workers representing the service union Verdi unexpectedly announce a strike on Sunday morning. This follows several warning strikes last week with over 13,000 employees participating, causing significant delays in customer service, canceled technician appointments, and some stores remaining shut. Verdi calls for this action to intensify the pressure on their employer as they approach a new negotiation period for the 70,000 employees scheduled from Monday to Tuesday.

Sunday's strike involves customer service employees ceasing work for their entire shift, starting from the early shift at 06:00. The union aims to send a strong message to employers before they come back to negotiate. Last Friday, Verdi mentioned a complete work stoppage on Monday. The strikes during the previous week had seen participating workers reach around 13,000 people across both days. This led to exceedingly long wait times in customer service, appointment cancellations for technicians, and specific stores being closed.

The key demands by Verdi are a twelve percent pay increase and a minimum of 400 euros extra for twelve months. They contend that the current offer from the employers is not sufficient and is unreasonably spread over a term of 27 months. Verdi's Pascal Röckert pointed out the need for a substantial shift in the upcoming crucial negotiations to avoid a prolonged conflict.
