Self-owned businesses - Verdi restricts municipal Kindergartens "in limited numbers"

Despite criticism from the Berlin Senate and parents, the union Verdi continued its series of warning strikes for better working conditions in communal kindergartens. On Wednesday, employees reportedly only partially went on strike, according to Verdi spokesperson Kalle Kunkel, without providing numbers on participation. This had no effect on the operation. "We assume that no kindergarten had to be closed," said Kunkel. However, the union does not have an overview of all 280 kindergartens in the communal enterprises. The strikes are expected to continue on Thursday.

Statements by Verdi from last week were understood by the public to mean that the union would not call for another warning strike in this week. On Tuesday, Kunkel clarified that this statement referred to closures. According to Verdi, 2000 to 3000 of the approximately 7000 employees in the communal kindergartens participated in the strikes at the roughly dozen strike days in the past weeks. Not all institutions were closed, which was not the case on Wednesday and Thursday.

  1. The United Services Trade Union, also known as Verdi, is leading the protests against the Berlin Senate for improving working conditions in several kindergartens.
  2. In response to the Berlin Senate's warnings, the United Services Trade Union has planned a Warning Strike in Berlin's kindergartens, affecting a significant number of parentage.
  3. Despite the Berlin Senate's concern, the United Services Trade Union, which manages kindergartens, remains determined to continue their strike actions, demanding better working conditions.
  4. The Berlin Senate and the parents are closely monitoring the ongoing series of Warning Strikes called by the United Services Trade Union, which will extend to more kindergartens in Berlin.
