US Republican Scott withdraws presidential bid
US Senator Tim Scott, who is far behind in the polls, has withdrawn his application to run for the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election. The 58-year-old made the announcement on Fox News.
The senator from the state of South Carolina - the only black representative of his party in the House of Representatives - had announced his candidacy in May. However, his chances of success were considered slim from the outset. According to polls, former US President Donald Trump is far ahead in the favor of party supporters.
The presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans have a broad field of candidates. Anyone who actually wants to become the party's official candidate in the end must first win through in internal party primaries. For the Democrats, US President Joe Biden is running for re-election. As the incumbent, he is unlikely to face any serious competition in the election campaign within the party.
Despite Scott's withdrawal, parties are still organizing for the upcoming presidential elections. The various Republican Party elections will significantly impact the final nominee, as the party has several contenders.
