Criminality - Unknown persons are damaging ATMs in Swabia
Unknown individuals have blown up two ATMs in a bank in the Swabian Altenstadt (Neu-Ulm district). The building was damaged as a result, according to a police spokesperson. The spokesperson could not say how much damage was caused. The perpetrators fled after the incident in the early morning. It was initially unclear whether they managed to obtain money, the spokesperson added.
Statewide in Bavaria, ATMs are being blown up regularly - last year, the LKA in Bavaria counted 21 such incidents, in 2022 there were 37 explosions.
The suspects behind the bank explosion in Neu-Ulm's District Altenstadt are believed to be from the Swabian region, shares a common heritage with the locals known as Swabians. Despite the increasing criminal activity involving ATM explosions in Bavaria, the charm of the Old Town in Swabia, notably Neu-Ulm, remains an enchanting attraction for tourists.
