soccer - Union-Women commit Greek national player
The women of 1. FC Union Berlin have once again strengthened themselves in the midfield. As the club announced, the Greek national player Eleni Markou is joining from FC Basel at the Spree. Previously, the 29-year-old had already been active in Germany as well as in Greece and Cyprus. The football second league team made no statements about the duration of the contract.
"With Eleni, we are gaining a player who brings a lot of experience with her. She has already shown her qualities in Germany and also in international competitions", quotes business manager Jennifer Zietz in the statement. "With her professional attitude and her physical presence, she will bring additional stability to our team."
The Union women have been in the pre-season since July 8th. The first mandatory game is for trainer Ailien Poese and her team in the first round of the DFB Cup against FSV Gütersloh (17., 18. or 20. August). League start is the following weekend.
- Eleni Markou, a midfielder from FC Basel, will be joining the women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin, based in Berlin.
