Düsseldorf - Unauthorized person in the Chancellery orders eviction

An unauthorized person at the State Chancellery in Düsseldorf triggered a hours-long police operation and building evacuation. According to a police spokesperson, someone gained unlawful entry to the building in the morning and left it a short time later. The spokesperson refused to provide further details about the incident.

According to dpa reports, the trail of the alleged intruder leads to the Düsseldorf homeless community. The police have information about a possibly mentally disoriented man who unlawfully gained entry. However, they could not yet arrest him by Tuesday evening.

For safety reasons, the State Chancellery was evacuated after the incident became known. "We then thoroughly searched the building to exclude the possibility that the person had left something behind," said a spokesperson. The police had already spoken of a "preventive measure" earlier. They were, however, present in large numbers.

"The investigations in the matter are ongoing"

In the afternoon, the all-clear was given: "We found nothing," said a police spokesperson. The employees were able to return to their workstations. The police refused to answer questions about the background of the person or how they had gained entry to the State Chancellery. "The investigations in the matter are ongoing," the spokesperson added.

NRW Minister-President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) was reportedly not at the State Chancellery during the incident, according to dpa reports. During regular political business, the Land Cabinet usually meets at the residence of the Minister-President on Tuesdays.
