Emergencies - Two women die in fire at Frankenthal clinic

According to investigations, two women aged 72 and 80 died in the fire at the clinic in Frankenthal, Palatinate. This was announced by the Rheinpfalz police headquarters on Tuesday. A 79-year-old patient was able to save herself from the room during the fire on Monday evening and was slightly injured.

Six other people were also injured by smoke gas, it said. A 29-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man had to be admitted to hospital. 30 people were cared for on site by police officers and others.

According to the investigation, the fire broke out in a room occupied by three patients on the second floor. The cause was initially unclear - the public prosecutor's office in Frankenthal commissioned an expert to examine the scene of the fire on Wednesday together with investigators from the Ludwigshafen criminal investigation department.

An autopsy is to be carried out on the victims to determine the cause of death. The two women were found on Monday during fire-fighting work.
