Unfalle - Two people injured in collision on A71
Two people were severely injured in a head-on collision on the A71 between Meiningen-North and Suhl Interchange. A helicopter ambulance brought the injured to hospitals, according to the highway police.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 65-year-old driver was on his way to Schweinfurt with his truck. At the Suhl Interchange, he reportedly drove unbraked into a sign truck, which was parked on the right lane for construction site security.
As a result of the collision, the truck was pushed over the road and came to a stop diagonally across both lanes. The 50-year-old driver of the sign truck was trapped in his cab. Both men sustained serious injuries.
Significant Damage and Closures
The damage is estimated to be around 215,000 Euros. The police temporarily closed the A71 in both directions to allow emergency services to reach the scene.
At noon, according to a spokesperson, the Autobahn was still closed towards Schweinfurt. For the removal of the vehicles, the police plan to use a crane. The duration of the removal was initially unclear.
The accident occurred in the region of Thuringia, specifically on the A71 between Meiningen-North and Suhl Interchange. The traffic in this area was significantly affected by the vehicle accident. The police from Swabiafort were also involved in managing the situation. Another hardship was faced when another car accident occurred on the Autobahna, causing additional congestion. Despite these challenges, the Autobahna Police ensured regular traffic flow as much as possible.
