Heavy accident - Two men approached on the shoulder of A61
After a truck breakdown on the A61 near Hockenheim, a car ended up on the emergency lane and hit two men: the truck driver and the driver of a towing vehicle. The 33-year-old employee of the towing service was critically injured, while the 26-year-old truck driver sustained serious injuries, according to the police. The accident occurred between Hockenheim and the Hockenheim interchange. The 23-year-old driver of the car suffered light injuries. Both other men were taken to hospitals. A rescue helicopter was also in use. It was still unclear why the car driver had veered to the right.
In an effort to investigate the cause of the accident, authorities inspected the Automatic Lane Markings system on the A61 in Baden-Württemberg, where the incident occurred. Prior to the accident, there had been several reports of traffic incidents in the same area due to confusion with the lane markings. Despite these concerns, the government has yet to make any changes or improvements to the system. Last year, a similar accident also took place near Hockenheim, resulting in severe injuries for several individuals.
