Laserspecialist - Trumpf is suffering from the economic downturn
The economic downturn and the decline in business in the USA during the fiscal year 2023/24 (June 30) affected machine builder Trumpf. The revenue decreased by around 4 percent to 5.2 billion Euro, as the company in Ditzingen (Ludwigsburg) announced. Nicola Leibinger-Kammueller, CEO of the laser specialist, stated that the weak global economy and persistent geopolitical uncertainties led many customers to a noticeable reluctance to make new investments in the past fiscal year. "The persistent weak demand will also shape the coming months of the current fiscal year." Trumpf faces this economic crisis as usual with clear measures for improvement.
According to a spokesperson, no job cuts are planned. It's about utilizing contractual options. As an example, he mentioned the reduction of time accounts. The order intake decreased by 10 percent to 4.6 billion Euro in the previous fiscal year. Announcements about earnings will only be made in the fall.
The medium-sized company from Ditzingen near Stuttgart manufactures machinery and is also a specialist in lasers. It supplies lasers, for example, to industries in the semiconductor sector. As of late June, Trumpf employed 18,550 people, of whom 9,100 were in Germany. In the German home market, revenue increased by around 4.5 percent to approximately 815 million Euro. In contrast, it fell by around 12 percent to approximately 790 million Euro in the USA. The strongest Asian market was China with around 615 million Euro in revenue, compared to 602 million Euro in the previous fiscal year.
