Trump associates faces charges in Wisconsin's fraudulent elector case.

These men - Kenneth Chesebro, a right-wing lawyer, Jim Troupis, a former Trump attorney, and Michael Roman, a former Trump campaign official - are all facing a single forgery charge.

This arrest comes as Wisconsin becomes the latest state to hold people involved with the ex-president accountable for their attempts to change the outcome of the presidential election. Other states, including Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, have also filed charges against several of Trump's allies.

An attorney for Chesebro has declined to comment. CNN tried to reach out to lawyers for Troupis and Roman.

Wisconsin's Democratic governor, Tony Evers, simply said "Good" upon hearing about the charges.

According to reports, Chesebro was aiding investigators in at least four states, including Wisconsin, who were probing the fake elector scam. His lawyers thought his help would be enough to meet the charges head-on.

Last year, the 10 fake electors from Wisconsin retracted their attempt to flip the 2020 presidential election results and admitted that the phony certificates they signed in December 2020 were part of an effort to subvert the legal outcome. The electors agreed to never serve as real electors again in 2024 or in any future elections where Trump is on the ballot, or act as fake electors in any future election as part of a civil lawsuit settlement.

The 10 fake electors released a statement, saying they acknowledge that their actions were used to "improperly overturn" the lawful election results.

"We hereby reaffirm that Joseph R. Biden, Jr. won the 2020 presidential election and that we were not the duly elected presidential electors for the State of Wisconsin for the 2020 presidential election," a part of their statement read. "We oppose any attempt to undermine the public’s faith in the ultimate results of the 2020 presidential election."
