Trial for "doppelganger murder" to begin in January
She is alleged to have killed a doppelganger from Baden-Württemberg with the help of an acquaintance and faked her own death - a young woman is therefore expected to stand trial in Ingolstadt (Bavaria) in January, together with an alleged accomplice.
The regional court there has admitted a charge of joint murder against the two of them, a court spokesperson announced on Thursday. The first day of the trial is scheduled for January 16, 2024. According to the information, the court is planning a total of 28 trial days. A verdict could therefore be reached at the beginning of May.
Investigators: Victim killed with 56 stabs
The public prosecutor's office assumes that the accused wanted to start a new life after family disputes about the relationship with her ex-boyfriend and therefore wanted to fake her death.
At the beginning of August 2022, the then 23-year-old German-Iraqi woman allegedly picked up her later victim, who looked just like her, in Eppingen near Heilbronn with her acquaintance, who was also on trial. On the drive to Ingolstadt, the two allegedly lured the young woman out of the car in a wooded area, knocked her down and killed her with 56 stab wounds.
They then parked the car with the woman's body in Ingolstadt, where it was later found by relatives of the suspects. They in turn thought it was the suspect. Doubts about the identity only arose during the autopsy. The woman, who was initially presumed dead, and her acquaintance - a Kosovan - were arrested.
The double murder case, involving the accused and her alleged accomplice, will face a thorough examination in the criminal processes during the trial. The court sessions, scheduled to begin in January 2024, are expected to probe the details of the 56 stab wounds used in the heinous crime.
