Until Sunday runs the 135th Travemunde Week, where nearly 1,500 participants measure and present themselves on 745 boats. According to a spokesperson for the Travemunde Week, between 300,000 and 350,000 people had come to Lübeck-Travemunde by halfway through the event. The vacation start and good weather had contributed to a good opening weekend. By the end of the one-week event, about 600,000 visitors and visitors were expected.

Since Friday, the second largest sailing sports event in Schleswig-Holstein, Schleswig-Holstein Week, has been running. The sailing events are reportedly in full swing. So far, 149 regattas have been sailed. Only five races had to be cancelled due to difficult wind and weather conditions.

Rotspon Cup

At the 19th Rotspon Cup, Henning Schumann, Mayor of the City, won against Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Economic Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD). Schumann took over the rowing from Lübeck's Mayor Jan Lindenau, who had to pause for health reasons.

"I am happy to have been invited," Minister Mayer emphasized. "As Economics Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, I couldn't manage it, I had to become Economics Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern first."

The former mayor Bernd Saxe had founded the Rotspon Cup in 2004. It is considered a revival of the original regatta of the Travemunde Week, as the Hamburg merchants Hermann Wentzel and Hermann Dröge raced against each other for the bet before Travemunde in 1889. The winner received a bottle of Lübecker Rotspon back then.
