Restriction for rail travellers - Transport between Ostkreuz and Hauptbahnhof restricted

Between the stations Ostkreuz and Berlin Hauptbahnhof, no long-distance and regional trains will operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 0.30 am and 5.15 am. This affects both directions. The German Railways (DB) announced this due to a short-term illness-related personnel shortage in the control center.

Trains affected by this will be partially rerouted through Berlin Gesundbrunnen, according to a DB spokesperson. Passengers are advised to check alternatives on the German Railways website or in the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) app.

The S-Bahn is not affected in principle. However, there are currently no trains running between Alexanderplatz and Tiergarten due to construction work. The track is still closed until July 29. According to the spokesperson, there is substitute transport for the S-Bahn.

Restrictions already in place for tonight

According to the Berlin Transport Information Center, there are numerous train cancellations on other lines tonight. Some trains on RB10 between Nauen and Gesundbrunnen or Südkreuz between 8:30 pm and midnight are reportedly canceled. Approximately at the same time, there are reportedly cancellations on RE6 between Kremmen/Hennigsdorf and Charlottenburg. The transport from S8 and S2 is disrupted between Pankow and Karow or Hohen Neuendorf from 11:45 pm to 1:30 am. There is substitute transport with buses.

  1. Due to the restriction at Berlin Hauptbahnhof, German Railways (DB) advises passengers to consider alternative routes for their DB trains, which will be partially rerouted through Berlin Gesundbrunnen.
  2. Regarding the S-Bahn, while not directly affected by the restriction between Ostkreuz and Main Station, current traffic conditions include a closure of the track between Alexanderplatz and Tiergarten until July 29, requiring substitute transport for S-Bahn passengers.
  3. This temporary personnel shortage in the control center has also resulted in numerous train cancellations on other lines tonight, affecting RB10 between Nauen and Gesundbrunnen, Sudkreuz between 8:30 pm and midnight, RE6 between Kremmen/Hennigsdorf and Charlottenburg, and S8 and S2 between Pankow and Karow or Hohen Neuendorf from 11:45 pm to 1:30 am.
  4. In addition to these cancellations, the Berlin Transport Information Center reports several canceled S-Bahn trains, requiring passengers to use substitute buses for travel during the affected time periods.
  5. Passengers are encouraged to check the German Railways website or the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) app for the most current information on train schedules and alternative routes within the DB network and Berlin's S-Bahn.
