At the collision of two trams in Augsburg, according to initial police reports, around 20 people have been injured. Six people were taken to the hospital for treatment, said a police spokeswoman. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. One of the trams reportedly collided with the other. The police are asking witnesses for tips.

The accident site in the area of the Red Gate has been closed for traffic. The closure is expected to last, according to Police, approximately several hours more. Traffic restrictions in the city center are to be expected.

The accident in Augsburg, which involved two trams, has prompted increased presence of police and rescue services in Swabia, a region in Bavaria. Some of the injured individuals were transported to hospitals in Augsburg, as per the police communications.
