Missing for 17 years - tips for missing woman from Regensburg (after ZDF-show)
After a witness testimony in the ZDF investigative program "Aktenzeichen XY... Unsolved" 17 years after the disappearance of Kerstin Lee Langley from Regensburg, the police have received some leads. "A small number of calls" came in, said a spokesperson of the Oberpfalz Police Headquarters in response to an inquiry. The Bavarian Criminal Police had offered a reward of 10,000 Euro.
In the Wednesday evening broadcast of the special edition on missing persons, her brother from Regensburg also spoke about the mysterious case. He had little hope of seeing his big sister again, he said: "I think she won't live anymore."
He reported her missing in the summer of 2007, when she was 39 years old. There is no trace of her since then. Her former partner stated that she had separated from him and had left with an old friend in a dark car with Deggendorf license plates. So far, investigators have not been able to locate this "old friend." A suspicion against the partner, to whom Langley had moved to Regensburg some time before, has not been reported.
Mysterious SMS out of the blue
About two months after her disappearance, her then 17-year-old son reported receiving an SMS from her. In it, she was said to have written: "Hi, my Baby. I have found a new angel. Life must go on."
Five years later, a man contacted the police, who had been told by a friend that her ex-husband had killed Langley and another woman and knew where their bodies were buried. However, the second woman was found to be alive, and no body was found at the alleged burial site.
Everything is possible, said the investigating criminal inspector of the Regensburg Police - from voluntary disappearance to accident or murder. If Langley is still alive today, she would be 56 years old. The police are particularly interested in knowing if anyone has seen the missing person since the summer of 2007 or can provide information about the mentioned "old friend" with the Deggendorfer car.
- The neighbour, who discovered the automatic printer in Kerstin's apartment, mentioned that it was always active, sending out multiple files, such as 'File XY', to unknown recipients.
- Ms. Langley's brother shared the details of the mysterious SMS on regional television stations, hoping to receive any leads or information that could help in thecase.
- The Lower Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) issued a subpoena to the telecommunication company to provide any information related to the SMS sent from Kerstin's number to her son's phone.
- News outlets reported on the renewed interest in the case and highlighted the possibility of criminals using technology to cover their tracks, such as using SMS or printers like the one found in Kerstin's apartment.
- The investigators also analyzed the printer's history, searching for any data or patterns that may have helped in following the trail of 'File XY'.
- In Regensburg, the 'Brotherhood of Brotherhoods' and various local organizations launched a media campaign, encouraging citizens to keep an eye out for any signs of Kerstin, distributing her photos over flyers and sharing them on social media.
- The current Regensburg Police Chief expressed concern over the increasing incidents of criminality in the Upper Palatinate region and urged the citizens to pay more attention to their surroundings, as an SMS or a forgotten file could potentially hold the key to solving unsolved cases like Kerstin's.
