German Weather Service - Thunderstorms and bad weather in the Southwest expected

After a hot Saturday, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Baden-Württemberg. At the beginning of the new week, however, the weather may also temporarily clear up, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

Already for the course of the Sunday's day, meteorologists had warned of partial heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain. In particular, in the south-east and along the Hochrhein, local thunderstorms were expected in the evening. Locally, up to 40 liters rain per square meter can fall in a short time. In addition, there may be hail and wind gusts with maximum wind speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

Above all, until midnight, there may still be showers and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms are also expected on Monday, occasionally with lightning and thunder.

High temperatures expected next week

Although the hot air from the thunderstorms and rain brings slightly cooler air to Baden-Württemberg, summer temperatures are still expected in the coming week. The thermometer can reach up to 28 degrees on Monday. On Tuesday, it is expected to remain dry in the morning, but then the DWD expects more showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. The temperatures are expected to reach up to 21 degrees in the mountains and 27 degrees in northern Baden. According to the DWD, it will be slightly cooler around the middle of the week with temperatures of up to 19 degrees in the Alps and 26 degrees on the Upper Rhine.

No annual high record broken over the weekend

The temperatures in Waghaüsel-Kirrlach reached up to 33.9 degrees on Saturday. The hottest day of the year was not that day, however, as meteorologists at the DWD reported. The annual high record for Baden-Württemberg is 34.8 degrees, which was measured on a weather station in Obersulm-Willsbach on June 29.

The forecast predicts thunderstorms along the High Rhine in Baden-Württemberg's south-east region, potentially leading to heavy rainfall of up to 40 liters per square meter. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Stuttgart warns of local thunderstorms, hail, and wind gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour in this area.

Despite the expected rain and thunderstorms, summer temperatures are still expected in Baden-Württemberg over the coming week. For instance, the thermometer may reach up to 28 degrees on Monday, as reported by the DWD.

Incidentally, the DWD also forecasts thunderstorms on Monday for Baden-Württemberg, possibly accompanied by lightning and thunder. These weather conditions are typical for the Southwest region of Germany.

The German Weather Service (DWD) in Stuttgart continues to monitor the weather situation closely, providing frequent updates and warnings for the safety of the people in Baden-Württemberg.
