German Weather Service - Thunderstorm and heavy rain end heatwave in Lower Saxony

In Lower Saxony and Bremen, there will be a weather change with temperatures becoming cooler and unsettled, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). In the southwestern part of the country, heavy showers with strong rain had already occurred in the early afternoon. A meteorologist from the DWD stated, "Approximately 29 liters per square meter per hour fell at Dransfeld in the Göttingen district."

The second day of racing at the Bad Harzburg Galopprennwoche was cancelled. The race meeting was halted due to a thunderstorm and heavy rain after the third of the scheduled nine races. The unsettled weather continued to move towards the northeast in the afternoon.

A cold front will move into Lower Saxsen from the west overnight on Monday, with temperatures dropping to between 15 and 19 degrees. According to the DWD, the weather will then calm down. On Monday, it will be unsettled, with partly cloudy skies, remaining mostly dry. Temperatures in the interior will reach 22 to 25 degrees, while on the islands they will be 21 degrees.

Another low pressure system is expected between Ostfriesland and Emsland in the night to Tuesday, bringing showers and thunderstorms. The minimum temperatures will be 16 degrees in the western parts of the country and 11 to 14 degrees in the east. A new low pressure system will approach on Tuesday, bringing showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will reach 21 degrees on the islands, 24 degrees in Bremen, and 27 degrees in the southern parts of the country.

  1. Despite the weather change predicted by DWD in Hannover and Bremen, the Galopprennwoche in Bad Harzburg was disrupted by a thunderstorm.
  2. The DWD meteorologist in the District of Göttingen reported heavy rainfall of around 29 liters per square meter per hour during the weather change.
  3. The weather in the southwest of Lower Saxony had already experienced heavy showers and strong rain, leading to a halt in the Galopprennwoche.
  4. The unsettled weather that brought thunderstorms in Bad Harzburg was expected to move towards the northeast, potentially affecting other parts of Lower Saxony.
  5. After a cold front moves into the western part of Lower Saxsen overnight, DWD predicted calmer weather in Hannover and Bremen the following day, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 19 degrees.
  6. Southwest parts of the country could experience another round of showers and thunderstorms, as a new low pressure system approaches, bringing potential disruptions similar to that in Bad Harzburg.
