September festival - The Travemunde Week starts on Friday
The 135th Travemünde Week is about to begin. The second largest sailing sports event in Schleswig-Holstein, which will be opened by Lübeck's Mayor Jan Lindenau (SPD) with the traditional signal "Heißt Flagge" on Friday (19. July). From then on, Travemünde will be all about sailing and enjoyment until the 28th of July.
The organizers shared that the sporting events and participants' numbers show that the Travemünde Week holds a high global significance. Accordingly, there are 20 different regattas planned. The current numbers indicate that 27 nations will be represented in Travemünde – from all over Europe, but also from America, Asia, and Australia. 745 boats have been registered with nearly 1500 participants. Lindenau will face Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) in the Rotspon Cup this year.
The visitors can expect a diverse program in the land area, as announced. On various stages, there will be singer-songwriters, local bands, and international stars like the former Genesis singer Ray Wilson. A Ferris wheel will be a giant attraction this year, according to the organizers, which will be in the Brügmanngarten. Additionally, there will be culinary delights to discover, and creatives can create Aquarelle or art from everyday objects like tape.
The police announced that, during the event days, they will be available as contact persons for the guests, as they have been in previous years. The Water Police will ensure safety and order on the Trave and in the Lübeck Bay.
Due to the high number of up to 500,000 expected female and male visitors until the 28th of July and limited parking spaces, the police kindly ask to use public transportation as much as possible for the journey.
