In Schleswig-Holstein, after the last school day on a Friday, approximately 370,000 girls and boys begin their summer vacations at the general educational schools in the state. Around 28,000 teachers also have teaching-free time. Nearly 32,000 girls and boys ended the school year with a graduation, as the Education Ministry announced.
On the mainland, the new school year starts on September 2nd, but on the islands it begins a week earlier. The reason for this is that many parents on the islands are employed in tourism.
During the summer vacation, many children in Schleswig-Holstein use this time for leisure activities, exploring the beaches and forests that the region is known for. Upon returning to school after the summer vacation, students in Schleswig-Holstein's general educational schools will find a new group of teachers, as around 28,000 teachers also enjoy their own school-free time during this period.
