Traffic - The ministry expects more users of D-Tickets in summer

The Traffic Ministry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern expects more users of the Germany Ticket during the summer months. A ministry spokeswoman in Schwerin confirmed this to the German Press Agency in response to an inquiry. According to her, approximately 263,000 D-Tickets were sold in the northeast in May.

The average values for this year were reportedly between 200,000 and 220,000 tickets per month. "As the May sales figures already show, we are expecting increasing sales figures for the holiday months in the summer," the spokeswoman stated.

The user numbers reportedly include apprentice and senior tickets. These tickets can be purchased for monthly €29. The difference in cost is covered by the state.

Minister defends wasteful ticket

Transport Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) recently spoke out against federal plans to no longer cover the additional subsidies for senior and apprentice tickets in MV with regionalization funds. These offers are essential for a sparsely populated region like Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Meyer stated in the past week.

Regarding the debate on whether the ticket will be more expensive in the coming year, the spokeswoman said: "In the Transport Ministers' Conference, we have agreed to discuss the topic in the autumn of 2024, based on the development and updated forecasts on sales figures."

The 49-Euro-Ticket has been available since May of the previous year and is monthly valid. With this ticket, women and men can use public transport nationwide.
