soccer - The Minister will continue the Lower Saxony-Derbies without spectators
Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Daniela Behrens is sticking to her proposal of not allowing guest fans at both Football derbies between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig in the new season.
The first match between Braunschweig and Hannover will take place at the beginning of October. Before ticketing starts, we will instruct the club not to sell tickets for the guest block during the derby – unless the clubs come up with short-term suggestions on how it can run smoothly, the SPD politician told the German Press Agency in Hanover.
The background for this decision are the disturbances during both encounters between the Lower Saxony rivals last year. "I am indeed open for other solutions as well," said the Minister. "But if there are no reasonable and targeted proposals, then I have to act. The guest fan exclusion is my preferred option if there are no other instruments available."
According to her words, talks between the four Lower Saxony professional clubs and politics are planned for July 31. This concerns the Bundesliga team VfL Wolfsburg, the second league teams Hannover and Braunschweig, as well as third league team VfL Osnabrück. The new second league season starts on August 2.
