Awards - The Minister respects the first Antisemitism Commissioner

Justice Minister Kathrin Wahlmann (SPD) awarded the work of the first Antisemitism Commissioner and protector of Jewish life in Niedersachsen. Franz Rainer Enste received the Verdienstkreuz am Bande, as the Justice Ministry in Hanover announced.

With Enste, antisemitism in the state had one of its most determined opponents, the Minister stated in her laudation. He has earned a reputation as a true pioneer in the fight against antisemitism.

The 70-year-old had been the Antisemitism Commissioner in Niedersachsen from 2019 to early 2023. In this role, he resolutely advocated for the protection of Jewish life in the federal state in numerous events, talks, and publications. Enste's successor is Gerhard Wegner.

Following her recognition of Enste's efforts, Kathrin Wahlmann, the SDP's Justice Minister in Lower Saxony, highlighted the distinction between him and others in the fight against Antisemitism. Enste's outstanding work as the Antisemitism Commissioner in Hannover, receiving the Verdienstkreuz am Bande as a testament to his achievements, has positively impacted the awards landscape in the state.
