Regional politics - The CDU is holding a special session for Redmann's alcohol ride

The Brandenburg CDU will demonstrate transparency following the alcohol drive of Landes- and Faction Chief Jan Redmann. The Landtagsfaction agreed to the motion of the oppositional Linksfraktion after a special session of the Interior- and Legal Affairs Committees in the Landtag. "We will (...) fulfill our responsibility", shared the Parliamentary Business Manager of the CDU-Faction, Steeven Bretz. "Nevertheless, we are convinced that no new insights can be gained in either of the two committees." He warned against election spectacles.

The coalition partners SPD and Greens had already shown their support for the special session of the committees, which are expected to meet jointly. The Linksfraktion intends to clarify the question of influence of CDU-led ministries of Interior and Justice on the investigative proceedings with the session. Bretz proposes next Wednesday. The Landtag will gather for a special session on the supplementary budget regardless.

More than a week ago, CDU-Landes- and Faction Chief Redmann was stopped by the police while driving an E-scooter to his apartment in Potsdam with a breath alcohol level of 1.3 promille, according to his own statements. A breath alcohol level above 1.1 promille in the blood is a criminal offense. Redmann informed the media approximately twelve hours after the incident and admitted an error. SPD and Greens also see open questions, as the police reportedly sent the internal report on the control electronically delayed, according to their own statements, to prevent violation of personal rights of the affected parties.
