Sperrkreis established - The bank has closed the account due to failed theft from an ATM
Due to an unsuccessful heist at a Geldautomat in Brandenburg an der Havel, the police have cordoned off the area around the bank. It cannot be excluded that potentially dangerous substances could still be present in the vicinity of the ATM, the police stated. Therefore, at noon, they evacuated apartments and businesses, including a shopping center. Special forces were on site.
According to reports, the police were called to the bank in the night. Unknown perpetrators had gained forcible entry into the bank's interior and attempted to forcefully open a Geldautomat. The attempt failed, and the perpetrators fled before the arrival of the police, it was said.
The police were searching for the thieves but could not apprehend them. It is still unknown how many people are affected by the cordons and what potentially dangerous substances could be involved.
The failed ATM heist in Brandenburg an der Havel has resulted in increased criminality, as it's suspected that the perpetrators may be part of a restriction circle. The automat, or ATM, remains a focus of the investigation, as the criminals likely targeted it for theft.
