Well-being - The authorities confiscated nearly 250 animals

The Veterinary Office in Weiden in der Oberpfalz seized approximately 250 animals. According to the city's statements, at a pet owner's residence, 120 rabbits, 115 chickens, five guinea pigs, four dogs, three cats, and two guinea pigs were confiscated. The animals were reportedly housed in various animal shelters and on farmers' properties after inspection on Thursday.

The authority described the circumstances as "extremely rare". It is now being investigated, among other things, whether the owner will have to pay for the costs of the operation, which are reportedly around 50,000 Euros according to the statement. Several police patrols, the dog squad, and employees of the city administration were involved in the operation. The mayor Jens Meyer (SPD) was also present and expressed shock at the conditions.

In Bavaria, specifically the Upper Palatinate district, the well-being of animals came under scrutiny after the Veterinary Office conducted an inspection.
