Thailand allows bars longer opening hours
Good news for night owls in Thailand: pubs, bars and nightclubs in the popular vacation destination will soon be allowed to stay open two hours longer. The cabinet in Bangkok approved a corresponding draft decree from the Ministry of the Interior on Tuesday, as reported by the "Bangkok Post" newspaper.
According to the draft, nightclubs will be allowed to stay open until 04:00 instead of 02:00. However, the regulation only applies to the tourist hotspots of Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Chon Buri with the party metropolis of Pattaya as well as the islands of Koh Samui and Phuket.
New regulation from December 15
The ministry had previously stated that the new rules would come into force on December 15. It was not initially known whether this would remain the case. The aim is to further boost tourism, said Traisuree Taisaranakul, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior. The industry has still not recovered as much as the authorities had hoped since the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
Thailand is expecting 28 million foreign guests for the full year 2023. In comparison: before the pandemic, the country received 39.8 million international tourists per year. In order to boost the important market from China, the government allowed Chinese citizens to enter the country visa-free for 30 days back in September.
Tourists visiting popular destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Pattaya, and the islands of Koh Samui and Phuket in Thailand will be delighted to know that their nightlife experiences are set to become longer. This is due to the recent approval of a draft decree by the cabinet, which allows nightclubs to remain open two additional hours until 4:00 AM. With attractions such as the party metropolis of Pattaya and the islands of Phuket and Koh Samui, these extended opening hours in Thailand's tourist hotspots could significantly contribute to the country's goal of welcoming 28 million foreign guests in 2023, surpassing the pre-pandemic number of 39.8 million international tourists per year.
