Teenager from Italy dubbed 'God's influencer' expected to be Catholic Church's initial millennial saint.
The Pope acknowledged a second miracle connected to Acutis, a 15-year-old gamer and computer programmer who passed away from leukemia in 2006. Throughout his life, Acutis applied his technical abilities to disseminate awareness of the Catholic faith, resulting in the creation of a website chronicling miracles.
He was born in London, 1991, but his family relocated to Milan, Italy. Despite his parents' non-religious background, Acutis' faith was encouraged by his Polish nanny. Posthumously, his remains were transferred to the Italian town of Assisi, where they are now stored in a shrine that also houses other relics linked to him.
To become a saint, potential candidates typically require two miracles. The most recent miracle attributed to Acutis came from a girl in Costa Rica who had undergone a head injury after falling from her bicycle in Florence, Italy, where she was learning. Her mother indicated she supplicated for her daughter's recovery at the tomb of Acutis in Assisi.
Acutis’ beatification and designation as "blessed" took place in 2020 following his first miracle, which saw a Brazilian boy's pancreatic birth defect, causing difficulty in eating normally, healed.
Once two miracles have been affirmed, the Pope will summon a gathering of cardinals to affirm Acutis' sainthood and determine a day for his canonization.
His narrative serves as a valuable asset for the Catholic Church since it endeavors to forge stronger ties with younger generations in a digital era.
Bearing the millennial label as he was born between the 1980s and mid-1990s, Acutis is recognized by friends and family for his fondness of playing video games, including Halo, Super Mario, and Pokémon.
