Tourism at the Coast - Sun and beach chair: North Sea island welcomes many day visitors

Hosts and tourism associations along the North Sea coast are expecting a surge in tourism in the coming days due to uncertain weather conditions and predicted summer temperatures. Baltrum, the smallest of the East Frisian Islands, is nearly fully booked, according to Baltrum's Tourism Manager Michael von Tegelen.

The accommodations on the island are about 90% occupied. Many holidaymakers from the important source region North Rhine-Westphalia for the Lower Saxon North Sea coast have already arrived on the island. "There are still possibilities for some days to come in," said von Tegelen. The island could expect up to 1,000 day-trippers on sunny days in the coming days. The beach was already bustling on Thursday.

The German Weather Service expects temperatures of up to 34 degrees in Lower Saxsen on Saturday, with only slight cooling to around 30 degrees on the East Frisian Islands. The meteorologists forecast temperatures of up to 24 degrees for the islands on Sunday. In the past few weeks, fluctuating weather has dampened the mood in the tourism industry.

While summer holidays are already running in Lower Saxony and Bremen, the first holiday weekend is now starting in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The ADAC expects correspondingly heavy traffic on the roads in the north.
