Student pilot dies in light aircraft crash
A 58-year-old student pilot has died in the crash of a light aircraft in the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Hünxe. After the crash in a wooded area in the immediate vicinity of the "Schwarze Heide" airfield on Friday evening at around 6.05 p.m., the 73-year-old flight instructor from Erkrath near Düsseldorf was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Duisburg public prosecutor's office and the police.
The light aircraft was reportedly completely destroyed. The Bottrop fire department and the town of Dinslaken were reportedly deployed with a large number of rescue workers. The work of the rescuers in the rough terrain was complicated, they said. Investigations into the cause of the accident were carried out by the criminal investigation department under the direction of the Duisburg public prosecutor's office and the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation.
The accident involved a light aircraft in the air traffic over Hünxe, resulting in a fatal crash for the 58-year-old student pilot. The crash site was located near the "Schwarze Heide" airfield, and it led to serious injuries for the 73-year-old flight instructor.
