Traffic control - Stolen wheels and drugs discovered during routine control
A routine license plate check of a car at Fürth revealed numerous other violations and criminal activities - among other things, the officers discovered several stolen bicycles and drugs with the suspects. The police arrested the 35-year-old driver and his 41-year-old passenger based on their own statements. The 35-year-old had reportedly been wanted on two outstanding warrants for other offenses. The men were supposed to be presented to an investigative judge today.
The police had noticed the van on a Wednesday due to its expired short-term license plates. During the check, the driver attempted to hide a package - presumably containing drugs. In the cargo area, the police found six high-end stolen bicycles, tools, and electronic articles - presumably stolen property.
During the subsequent apartment search, the officers secured additional stolen bicycles and smaller quantities of Crystal Meth. The value of the bicycles was approximately 40,000 Euro, according to a police spokesperson. The 35-year-old did not possess a driver's license but only a British provisional driving license that was invalid in Germany.
The 35-year-old's outdated British provisional driving license was not valid for operation in Germany's traffic, highlighting a common issue with foreigners. The expired short-term license plates on the wagon were a clear violation of Fürth's traffic regulations. The police confiscated an automatic pistol during the apartment search, adding a weapons charge to the list of offenses. The region of Middle Franconian Bavaria has been grappling with rising criminality, with drugs and bicycle thefts becoming increasingly common issues.
