Street crime - Statistics: Fewer robberies in Bremen

The fight against street crime in Bremen shows first successes according to security authorities. "The number of recorded street robberies in June decreased compared to the previous year by more than 60 percent", stated Bremen's Interior Senator Ulrich Mäurer (SPD). In comparison to the previous month, investigators reportedly registered 50 percent fewer robberies.

The work of the special commission "Young Robbers" is showing effect, reported the Security Authorities. The investigative forces have identified nearly 300 suspects since autumn of the previous year and executed almost 60 arrest warrants. "Most of the suspects are from Morocco, followed by Algeria and Germany", the police shared.

The number of robbery cases in Bremen had recently risen sharply. The investigators therefore established the special commission in September 2023. To sustainably combat street crime, the police emphasized that a high presence of officers is necessary.

The special commission, focused on reducing criminality related to young robbers, was established in Bremen by the police. This move was prompted by a significant rise in burglary cases within the city. Senior SPD politician Ulrich Maurer, serving as Bremen's Interior Senator, has acknowledged the success of this initiative, with a significant drop in recorded street robberies. The statistics reveal a decrease of over 60% in street robberies compared to the previous year, and a 50% decrease from the previous month.
