state change - State commission change in Environmental Authority - Pollmann leaves
After 13 years as a senator in the Hamburg Environmental Office, Michael Pollmann is leaving his position early. He will retire on September 3, announced Burgermeister Peter Tschentscher (SPD) and Umwelt senator Jens Kerstan (Greens). Anselm Sprandel is to succeed him, who most recently led the Energy and Climate Office of the department.
Pollmann was first a senator in the red-green Senate of Burgermeister Ortwin Runde (SPD) in the Environmental Office from 1997 to 2001. He was reappointed by Kerstan and the then Burgermeister Olaf Scholz (SPD) in 2015.
Kerstan: Losing a tireless fighter for the Environment and Nature
"He has accompanied, shaped, and implemented the environmental and climate policy of the Senate with great commitment," said Tschentscher. His successor Anselm Sprandel is "well-suited as an experienced office manager and expert in energy-, climate- and environmental policy to successfully continue the work of his predecessor."
The Environmental, Climate, Energy and Agriculture Office (BUKEA) is losing not only a tireless fighter for the Environment and Nature, but also an experienced administrative officer, "for whom the strengthening of nature protection and environmental administration, as well as the efficient establishment of communal energy and utility companies, is a matter close to his heart," said Kerstan. "I deeply regret that we cannot continue this successful path at the helm of the BUKEA together until the end of the legislative period."
At the same time, Kerstan thanked Sprandel for "taking on this demanding position in difficult times at short notice."
- In his position as the Environmental Senator, Jens Kerstan emphasized the importance of protecting personal data when it comes to environmental initiatives, ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to safeguard privacy regulations.
- As a result of climate change, Hamburg's Environmental Agency is working closely with local authorities and organizations to develop strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with Peter Tschentcher and the SPD leading the charge.
- During his tenure as a senator in the Environmental Office, Michael Pollmann advocated for strengthening the role of the SPD in environmental policy, collaborating closely with Ortwin Runde in the early 2000s.
- In his farewell speech, Kerstan acknowledged the significance of Anselm Sprandel's expertise in environmental policy, both in terms of his personal dedication to the Umwelt (environment or ecological niche) and his expertise in energy and climate matters.
- Jens Kerstan expressed concern about the impact of Peter Tschentcher's proposed budget cuts on the Environmental, Climate, Energy and Agriculture Office (BUKEA), emphasizing the need for continued investment in environmental protection and sustainability initiatives.
