In Frankfurt, a new Data Center is being built. The US company Cyrus One is constructing the center named "FRA7" in the district of Griesheim. Ministerpresident Boris Rhein (CDU) is expected at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (10.30 am) on the construction site. This project is a significant investment for the city and the region, according to the State Chancellery.

Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main Region are leading regions for data centers in Germany and Europe. This is mainly due to the fact that the Main metropolis has a high fiber optic cable density and hosts one of the largest Internet exchange points, De-Cix.

Already, there are dozens of larger data centers in Frankfurt and the surrounding area. Many more are in planning. Google opened a cloud data center in Hanau as recently as the previous October.

At "FRA7", as with other centers, it is planned that the heat will be reused. For example, in the Frankfurt district of Gallus, a data center is planned to heat residential buildings in a new neighborhood.
