energy transition - Solar build-out in the Southwest is progressing

Solar energy expansion is progressing. The increase in the country amounted to 1.032 Megawatts in the first half of the year, according to information provided by the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of the State of Baden-Württemberg and the Solar Cluster in Karlsruhe.

The Network referred to preliminary data from the Federal Network Agency, which have been corrected by the Center for Solar Energy and Water Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW). The network owners enter the number of modules and the total power into the market master data register themselves at the Federal Network Agency. Errors can occur during this process.

The Southwest missed the new record mark for photovoltaic expansion in the first half of 2024 by only 40 Megawatts. The second half of 2023 therefore remains the half-year with the largest photovoltaic expansion to date, with 1.072 Megawatts. "With the good figures at the beginning of the year, it looks realistic to reach the 1,997 Megawatts from 2023 by the end of the year," said Tina Schmidt from the Photovoltaic Network Baden-Württemberg. However, the condition is that the expansion does not slow down.

In the ranking by federal state, the Main-Tauber-Kreis in the Heilbronn-Franken region takes first place with a photovoltaic expansion of 110 Megawatts in the first half of the year, followed by the Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis with 58 Megawatts in the Rhein-Neckar region and Sigmaringen with 53 Megawatts in the Bodensee-Oberschwaben region.

Photovoltaic Network Baden-Württemberg

  1. The Federal Network Agency's data indicate that renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, are experiencing a significant energy transition in Baden-Württemberg and its Southwest region, as shown by the increase in photovoltaic systems.
  2. Tina Schmidt, from the Photovoltaic Network Baden-Württemberg, recognizes the potential of solar energy in Karlsruhe and nearby areas, stating that maintaining the current pace could lead to reaching the 1,997 Megawatts from 2023 by the end of the year.
  3. To facilitate this energy transition, network owners in Baden-Württemberg are required to enter the number of solar modules and their total power into the Federal Network Agency's market master data register, although errors can occur during this process.
  4. The Photovoltaic Network Baden-Württemberg released information confirming that the Southwest missed its record mark for solar energy expansion by just 40 Megawatts in the first half of 2024, with the second half of 2023 being the half-year with the largest solar energy expansion to date.
  5. In the state rankings, the Main-Tauber-Kreis in the Heilbronn-Franken region tops the list with a photovoltaic system expansion of 110 Megawatts in the first half of the year, closely followed by the Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis in the Rhein-Neckar region and Sigmaringen in the Bodensee-Oberschwaben region.
