"Ski and toboggan well": onset of winter expected for the weekend

Those who live above 400 meters can rejoice: it will be white on Friday. But even for those who live at lower altitudes, it might be worth looking out of the window when you get up on Saturday morning.

"Ski and toboggan well": onset of winter expected for the weekend

Sun on Wednesday, storms on Thursday and Friday, snow at the weekend: The weather will be very varied this week and will end with a wintry finish in many places.

"For mountainous areas above around 400 meters, it will most likely be: "Ski and toboggan well", announced meteorologist Robert Hausen from the German Weather Service (DWD) with the much-quoted saying about the weather next weekend. A white surprise on Saturday morning cannot be ruled out for the lower altitudes either, but the snow will probably melt during the course of the day.

But for now, Wednesday will be a largely dry day, "mostly clear to cloudy", reported the DWD. Only from Emsland to Nordfriesland may there be some rain towards the evening. Temperatures will range from zero degrees in Saxony to nine degrees at the North Sea.

On Thursday it will be milder with temperatures between five and nine degrees in the south and ten to 13 degrees in the north - but also much more unpleasant. There will be strong winds throughout the country, with gale-force winds of between 90 and 110 kilometers per hour possible at sea and in the higher mountain regions. It also rains from time to time, more frequently in the north in the afternoon. The best weather will be south of the Danube, where it is often sunny and dry.

Friday will bring a lot of wind and temperatures between four and ten degrees as well as a rapid change of sun, clouds and many showers. Above 400 to 500 meters, snow will fall, and brief sleet storms are also possible. During the night into the weekend, it will snow down to the lower altitudes and it may become slippery.

Based on the weather forecast, mountain enthusiasts should prepare for a winter delight next weekend as skiing and tobogganing conditions are expected to be excellent, given the snowfall predicted for higher altitudes. Despite a potential white surprise on Saturday morning for lower altitudes, the snow is expected to melt during the day.
